5 ways to boost energy when you are tired
Are you full of energy or looking for ways to boost your energy after a big event? A birthday party, holiday weekend, even a fun girl’s weekend. All events that many of us anticipate. How do they leave you feeling afterwards? How do you plan for that? Some women find they feel lots of energy after these types of parties (yay you)! If that’s not you, you are not alone. In fact, when I talk to other women in their 30’s-50’s they mostly say they feel depleted. So, if you love taking care of your people, but, you also want to take care of your self, what do you do? Here are 5 ideas to boost your energy during and after big weeks, weekends, or just a long day.
- Drink plenty of water. If you are drinking alcohol, try to alternate with a sparkling water, water with lemon, or herbal tea.
- Eat (or drink) protein. Celebration meals aren’t known for being energizing and you may feel the effects for a couple days afterwards. Instead of skipping meals leading up to the big dinner or after the huge brunch get some lean protein in (this is a great time to have a high quality protein shaken hand).
- Get serious about your sleep. Your body wants you to repay your sleep debt and that can take a few days. Avoiding alcohol, blue light, and sleeping in a very dark room can help you get into the deeper sleep.
- Workout – in the afternoon and at an intensity that feels right for you (be honest with yourself). If you are feeling worn out, waiting until afternoon to get in movement allows your stress hormones to naturally decrease and helps provide energy and a positive mindset for the evening (to stay on track with your no alcohol and earlier to bed intentions :)).
- Breathe/ Gratitude doing some deep breathing can help to relax your body and mind, putting you back into the rest and digest state. Writing down things you are grateful for can help you to enjoy that worn-out feeling by refocusing your mind on what is going (or went) well.
