Five Easy Habits You Can Start Right Now
Make it feel good – one of my favorite yoga instructors will often remind us of this, and I am passing the gift to you. Take these five concepts, commit to them for a specific period of time, and make them work for you. I can promise you that they will improve your wellness! Oh, one more thing – these are simple, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy. Be gracious with yourself and keep trying – you are worth it.
- Journaling. First thing in the morning, right before bed, a gratitude journal. Pick one and commit to it- get out of your head and onto a piece of paper.
- Breathing. Not shallow, distracted breathing, but the intentional, fill your belly with air, hold it, and then let something go breath. When is the last time you took five deep breaths and felt grateful for the gift of life? Pick a time each day, set a reminder, and take 1 minute, 5 minutes, maybe longer to just focus on this gift.
- Mindful Eating. Plan you meals for the day or maybe the week. Put the meals on a plate and savor them. Snacks too. Craving a snack? Get a glass of water. Still hungry? Put the snack on a plate and sit down and savor it.
- Move Every Day. Start where you are. Walk, Jog, Stretch, Play. What sounds good to you? Schedule it in at the beginning of your week and keep your promise to yourself.
- Sleep. Clean your room, wash your sheets, clear out any clutter. Turn off tech, stop drinking a bunch of water in the late evening (add it in during the day), and build a night time routine. There may be more you need to do but be honest with yourself – are you doing the basics? Start where you are.
